Students learning more about research on international trade information and documentation

TEHRAN - The UN Information Centre (UNIC) in Tehran with cooperation of Iranian Association of UN Studies (IAUNS) held a workshop on “Finding UN Information and Documentation” for some 50 graduate students of international trade and international law from different universities at the UN Conference room on 19 December 2019. 

At the beginning of the session the participants paid tribute to the late professor of Faculty of Law and Political Science of University of Tehran Mr Masoud Taromsari on the eve of International Human Solidarity Day,  20 December. Mr Taromsari was an expert on trade law as well as a founding member of IAUNS.

UNIC Public Information Assistant Ms Nazanin Ghaemmaghami addressed the participants on how to retrieve UN documentation and information on international trade from the UN website. At the beginning, she elaborated on the UN Observances with a focus on International Human Solidarity Day (20 December).

The students got familiar with UN iLibrary and how to browse by a theme such as “International Trade and Finance”. Then there was a navigation through the Dag Hammarskjold Library’s (DHL) website. There was an overview of important information-searching tools located through DHL resources and databases, including Official Document System (ODS) and the UN Treaty Collection webpage. They learned where to find Glossary of terms relating to Treaty actions as well as Multilateral Treaties Deposited with the Secretary-General such as the ones on International Trade and Development.

There was a navigation on the UN Audiovisual Library of International Law and the participants learned to find lectures on International Economic Law. They also got familiar with how to find information about The United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and Trade Negotiations and Commercial Diplomacy as one of the themes. UNCTAD flagship publications were introduced. The participants also got familiar with World Trade organization issues as well as International Trade Centre (ITC).
